Over the week, we witnessed a Bitcoin price rally, and this has certainly led to an increase in crypto interest within merchants and customers.
Yelp, the local search engine company has taken the progressive step to boost the cryptocurrency adoption within its customers by adding a new filter. The new filter helps users to search for merchants who accept cryptocurrency as payment. Yelp helps users to search for a wide range of business services like entertainment, shopping, restaurants and the list continues. The Yelp users can now pay for any of the services with cryptocurrency and all thanks to its new filter that allows users to do it.
The user needs only to sort for businesses that accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment. Another important milestone achieved by Yelp to create cryptocurrency adoption awareness. If the user is searching for a restaurant, burger bar, food or other kinds of business listed on Yelp site, you can easily find one that allows you to make payment through cryptocurrency. The new filter goes as “accepts cryptocurrency”.
Yelp is a leading local search service provider, headquartered at California. Russell Simmons and Jeremy, the former PayPal employees started the company in 2004. Yelp is one of the popular websites/applications that collect information regarding businesses like business hours, customer reviews, location and others.
During its Q4 2018, more than 30 million independent users visited their mobile application, and around 69 million independent users have accessed their business through mobile websites, 62 million users access their desktop-based websites.
Most users make use of Yelp, and the active users will now have a choice of filtering their search results and find businesses that allow cryptocurrency payment.
Yelp’s new move is a significant step towards mass adoption of crypto. This new initiative might force local businesses to start accepting crypto-based payments. Local businesses need to adopt the change to compete with their local opponents.
Increase in Crypto Awareness
During 2017, Bitcoin broke its all-time high-record and reached $20,000 mark and crypto market cap was worth more than $800 billion. This tremendous price rise within the industry attracted the mainstream, and ever since then there has been lasting cryptocurrency awareness in the world.
However, the bear market of 2018, failed to hold on to the mainstream interest. The industry continued moving forward despite crypto winter, and now the mainstream interest in crypto has rekindled and is continuing to grow the curiosity within the minds of the people.
Yelp is not only the company that has added cryptocurrency payments but other popular companies like Expedia, Bitcoin.travel have also backed cryptocurrency payments, allows users to pay through various cryptocurrencies like Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Ethereum Classic.
Angus Champion of EY said: “I’m confident in bitcoin’s ability to radically transform the world as I ever have been. However, I believe the time horizon to do that is very long, and I believe my best bet in the industry is to simply buy and hold.”
Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey is not behind in speaking about the awareness of Bitcoin, Jack has spoken over Bitcoin at various events.
One thing is clear that the digital currencies are trending and the crypto awareness is growing rapidly.
